张榴晨,教授,加拿大工程院院士。1982年于北方交通大学获得学士学位,1984年于中国铁路科学院获硕士学位,1991年于皇后大学(Queen’ University)获博士学位。其于1992年加入新不伦瑞克大学(UNB),任电气和计算机工程系教授;于2001-2007年期间担任NSERC环境设计工程主席,并在2008-2014年期间担任加拿大风能战略网络(WESNET)的首席研究员。他是IEEE电力电子学会的副会长,2010年由于在风能技术发展方面具有显著的贡献被授予CanWEA R.J. Templin 奖;2016年由于在智能电网和可再生能源技术方面的贡献被授予新不伦瑞克杰出应用研究创新奖;并于2018年因其在分布式能源系统方面的贡献而获得PELS可持续能源系统技术成就奖。在期刊和会议上发表了350多篇论文。其研究方向包括基于可再生能源的分布式发电系统和直接负荷控制系统的研究、开发、演示和部署。

报告简介

In recent years, penetration of renewable energy in power systems has been increasing in response to growing trend in decarbonization in electrical grids. Distributed energy resources (DER) including distributed generation systems, energy storage systems and customer loads pose challenges as well as opportunities for grids. The intermittent nature of renewable resources presents challenges to power systems, impacting on grid reliability, flexibility, affordability and power quality. High penetration of renewable energy-based DERs demands more system resources. Standards have been updated for grid interconnection of DER inverters to furnish with additional power system support functions. Power electronics technologies enable these additional functionalities, enhance performance and value-added services to power systems from DERs.

This seminar first introduces the initiative from the IEEE Power Electronics Society for the development of International Technology Roadmap of Power Electronics for Distributed Energy Systems (ITRD) and then provides an overview of the power system support functions from renewable-based DER inverters. Some of the commonly used functions are described: voltage regulation by active/reactive power control, frequency regulation by active power control, voltage ride-through, frequency ride-through, and other system support functions. An actual power system in Barbados, an island Caribbean country, is used as an example for need for these system support functions, in the country’s preparation for 100% renewables by 2030. The benefits for power system operation are demonstrated through simulation studies using the utility-grade software package of CYME.
